Most dentists trying to get more patients reach for more advertising. But if your website doesn't convert the visitors you already have, more traffic just means more wasted spend. A Toronto practice came to us with decent traffic and almost no online bookings. We changed five things on the site โ no extra ad budget โ and over the following months their appointment bookings roughly tripled. Here's exactly what we changed and why each one worked.
What's inside
1. We made "Book Appointment" impossible to miss
The old site buried the call-to-action in a menu. A nervous patient with a toothache had to hunt for how to actually book. So most didn't.
We added a high-contrast "Book Appointment" button in the top-right of every page, plus the phone number as a tap-to-call link on mobile. The single most important thing a dental website can do is make the next step obvious โ and most don't. One clear, repeated action beats a dozen buried links every time.
2. We added real online booking
Plenty of would-be patients won't call. They're at work, it's after hours, they have phone anxiety โ but they'll happily book online in 90 seconds at 10pm. Without that option, the practice was simply invisible to them.
Why this one moved the needle most
A large share of dental bookings now happen outside office hours. Online scheduling captures the patient at the exact moment they decide to act โ instead of asking them to remember to call tomorrow (they won't). This was the biggest single driver of the tripling.
3. We put trust signals above the fold
Choosing a dentist is a trust decision. The old homepage led with a stock photo and a slogan. We replaced it with the things that actually reassure a new patient, right where they'd see them first:
- Star rating and review count pulled from Google
- "Accepting new patients" stated plainly
- Insurance accepted and a real photo of the actual team and office
Trust removes hesitation, and less hesitation means more completed bookings.
4. We made the site fast on mobile
Most people search for a dentist on their phone, often in mild pain and zero patience. The old site took several seconds to load on mobile โ and a big chunk of visitors left before it even appeared. You can't book a patient who already bounced.
We compressed the images, cleaned up the code, and got load time down to about a second. Faster site, lower bounce, more people actually reaching the booking button.
5. We built a dedicated "New Patients" page
New patients have specific worries: What will my first visit be like? Do you take my insurance? How much will it cost? Are you taking new patients? The old site forced them to dig for answers โ or call to ask, which many won't.
We built one clear page that answered all of it and ended with a single obvious "Book Your First Visit" button. It pre-handled the objections and made saying yes easy.
The results โ and how to apply them
Same traffic, same ad budget. After these five changes, online appointment bookings roughly tripled within a couple of months. Nothing about how the practice got found changed โ only what happened once people arrived.
If you want more dental patients, start here before you spend another dollar on ads:
- Add an obvious booking button to every page.
- Offer online booking for after-hours patients.
- Lead with trust โ reviews, "accepting new patients," real photos.
- Fix mobile speed.
- Build a new-patient page that answers the real questions.
The honest truth
You probably don't have a traffic problem โ you have a conversion problem. Fixing the website turns the visitors you already pay for into booked patients. That's the cheapest growth available to any Toronto practice.
